Invista Operations and Management (NSINVOM)
Zielgruppe
This course is intended for any person who is presently or expects to be involved with an Invista instance, in any of the following capacities:
- Performing routine monitoring and maintenance of an Invista instance
- Creating, provisioning, and actively managing virtualized storage
- Designing and implementing strategies for ILM, storage tiering, storage technology refreshes, data migration, and data replication using Invista
- Managing a data center with production SAN and IP infrastructure that must support one or more Invista instances for block storage virtualization
Voraussetzungen
To understand the content and successfully complete this course, a student must have a suitable knowledgebase/skill set. The student must have an understanding of
- SCSI and Fibre Channel protocols
- Storage area network (SAN) concepts
- IP networking
- Connectrix switch administration: B-Series and MDS-Series
- EMC storage administration: Symmetrix and CLARiiON arrays
- Host operating systems – Windows or UNIX
A list of specific prerequisite courses can be found in EMC Education Services Learning Management System.
Kursziele
This instructor-led course provides the learner with an in-depth understanding of how to
manage, use, monitor, and maintain a functional Invista instance. The emphasis is on
provisioning virtualized storage from Invista to hosts, and performing operations on live
virtual volumes such as expansion, mobility, mirroring, and cloning. The course also covers
routine monitoring, maintenance, and security features of an Invista instance. To provide
suitable context, this course begins with a brief overview of Invista architecture,
components, deployment options, and integration into production environments. This is
intended to provide a level-set for students who are generally quite familiar with SAN
technology, but not as familiar with Invista product specifics. Hands-on lab exercises are
likely to constitute a significant portion of this three-day course.
This course supports Invista V2.2.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Navigate Invista Element Manager and examine various facets of an operational instance in production
- Provision storage elements from storage arrays to Invista, create virtual volumes, and provision virtual volumes to hosts
- Perform fundamental operations on Invista virtual volumes in production, including: dynamic expansion, various types of mobility, cloning, and mirroring
- Perform routine monitoring of an instance, including audits of security and storage management operations
- Devise specific strategies to manage dynamic environments with multiple storage arrays, potentially thousands of virtual volumes, and frequent data migrations
