SAN Management (MR-1CP-NSSANM)

This course is intended for anyone responsible for planning, implementing, and managing storage area networks.

To understand the content and successfully complete this course, a student must have a suitable knowledgebase/skill set. The student must have an understanding of:

• SCSI and Fibre Channel protocols
• SAN concepts
• Basic SAN switch administration for B-Series, M-Series, and MDS-Series switches
• CLARiiON and Symmetrix storage array administration

This course focuses on configuration and administration of storage area networks (SAN), with a strong emphasis on principles and best practices for B-Series, M-Series, and MDSSeries switches. Security, performance monitoring, and documentation are also covered. All the switch operations are accomplished through the different switch native tools, CLI, and EMC ControlCenter. EMC Symmetrix and CLARiiON array management as it relates to SAN is performed through Solutions Enabler, Symmetrix Management Console, NaviCLI, Navisphere Manager, and EMC ControlCenter.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

• Provide an overview of Fibre Channel based storage area networks
• Describe some of the considerations for effective SAN management
• Perform basic operations on EMC storage arrays using CLI and GUI tools
• Describe SAN Manager components and management features
• Describe best practices observed in SAN environments such as security, performance monitoring, and documentation
